This
unusual and exciting new development is a focus for the regeneration
of the heart of Redruth. The Cornish Studies Library, enlarged with
greatly-expanded facilities and enhanced with a visitor information
centre, will use the new development's name "The Cornwall Centre". Its
principal access will be from Alma Place at street level, and it will
stretch back and over the market with a newly inserted floor at the
same level.
Below this, and accessible at street level from Market Strand off Fore
Street (and by internal lift and stairs) will be Market Way, a new retail
development of small shop units and a cafe, combined (by means of reopening
the former entrance way) with the adjacent cobbled Butter Market. It
is planned to further develop the farmer's market here.
Two floors in the Alma Place building accommodate Cornwall's first Forum
scheme. Funded by the Devon & Cornwall Housing Association, this
provides accommodation and training facilities for young people.
